Music in Prato. Festivals in the city
Prato city of music. There are many events dedicated to music that every year make up a billboard full of opportunities to listen many different musical genres.
The most important musical reality of our city is the Camerata Strumentale Città di Prato that from October to May every month offers at the Politeama Theatre (via Garibaldi) at least one concert of classical music within its concert season. Also important is the free concert in Piazza Duomo in September, on the eve of the Feast of the Madonna.
The Camerata Strumentale is part of the "Palazzo della musica" project, composed of the orchestra, the "Giuseppe Verdi" music school and the Rete Toscana Classica radio station inside Palazzo Martini in via Santa Trinita: a place of music training, production and diffusion.
For those who love classical music, for the last ten years a festival dedicated to the composer from Prato Domenico Zipoli has been held in December, with many appointments around the city. At the Verdi school of music there is, instead, "L'ora del concerto", a festival designed to offer an executive opportunity to young musicians newly graduated, to local musicians at the beginning of their career and to Verdi's teachers.
For jazz lovers the MetJazz, one of the most long-lived and renowned reviews of its kind in Italy, is organized by the Metastasio Theater under the artistic direction of Stefano Zenni. It usually takes place in the first months of the year: big names in the Italian and international contemporary scene pass from Prato for unique occasions, including concerts, meetings, conferences and exhibitions.
In summer, in addition to the musical events proposed from June to August by the municipal review "Prato Estate", one of the most interesting events in the area is undoubtedly the Festival delle Colline, which every year mixes wonderful locations scattered throughout the province of Prato and really interesting musicians. For those who like to be surprised by music.
To greet the summer and celebrate the Prato festival, instead, in September, for some years, there is the review "September - Prato è spettacolo" that brings important names of national and international pop and rock music to Piazza del Duomo.
