Lanificio Ruggero Balli spa
The Lanificio Ruggero Balli was founded in 1948 when the three Prato brothers Ruggero, Otello and Dionigi, after starting out as workers specialized in weaving, set up their own business and created their own small company from nothing. The post-war economic boom and a bit of luck allowed the newborn company to grow exponentially in just a few years. Weaving was integrated with other production processes such as spinning and finishing, thus transforming the small business into a full-cycle vertical company. Soon the original headquarters of the wool mill was no longer able to satisfy the needs of the business and in 1974 the three brothers decided to move to a place more suited to the new production needs. The choice fell on one of the most historic and important factories in Prato: the Fabbricone, a complex dating back to the end of the 19th century and which had been the flagship of the Prato textile industry during the first half of the 20th century.
