Manteco
Manteco was founded in 1941 from an old military blanket, from a semi-destroyed spinning mill to the flagship of the textile industry.
The journey began in the 1940s in Resina, near Naples, where military materials were collected from all over Italy (blankets, sweaters, shirts and other military clothing no longer wearable) and resold to the highest bidders. With the country left devastated by war there were only a small number of sheep pastures, limited shipments of raw materials from abroad and no money to invest. A story of great intuitions and determination that begins with Enzo Anacleto Mantellassi and continues for three generations. Mantellassi immediately understood the great potential of trading in this commodity. In Prato these garments began the transformation process, first shredded, then spun to create precious recycled wool yarns without the use of chemicals, through a mechanical and wet process still used today.
As the years passed, the collection done in Resina was no longer enough so Enzo decided to start his own business, designing an innovative system. Over the years, the family business has perfected the recycling process and brought it into the world of luxury. Today it produces an endless range of colors of undyed regenerated wool through the Recype® process, and also offers a wide range of luxury fabrics with different constructions, weaves and finishes, all made with the new generation of MWool® recycled wool fibres.
Manteco pursues growth and expansion aims, always enhancing sustainability, innovative solutions, the flagship zero-waste system and traceable circular economy projects.
The Manteco Archive is the place that shows history and serves as a source of inspiration for clients and the design team. It preserves and displays the entire textile collection produced: more than 80,000 qualities and thousands of colors and designs. It is a contribution that Manteco offers to the world of fashion and its protagonists. A space designed to host events, meetings and the most important designers in the world.
