Chamber of Commerce A symbol of rebirth created through ambitious renovation work

The Chamber of Commerce building is located between via del Romito and via Baldanzi inside a former textile factory built in the mid-twentieth century which was transformed through an ambitious renovation work. In 2004, the Chamber of Commerce announced a competition and the winning project created a multifunctional space that houses the institution's headquarters and offices, but which is also equipped with large spaces for events.

Internally revolutionized to adapt to the different activities that take place there, the building retains its imposing industrial structure behind a new appearance, a skin of anodized expanded metal with a warm bronze tone, which recalls a brise-soliel "fabric" and allows a glimpse of the original shape of the building. In some points, the monolith opens outwards, both through powerful vertical cracks that connect the internal courtyard to the city, and through the large opening of the council hall, offering a breathtaking view of the main monuments of the city.

The headquarters is totally eco-efficient, thanks to the use of solar panels and geothermal pumps. The decision to give an old factory a new life was born from the desire to recover existing structures and redefine new public spaces. The use of materials deriving from recycling, in line with the principles of the circular economy of which Prato is a spokesperson, is at the centre of this project.

The Chamber of Commerce building is a true symbol of rebirth and innovation, where history combines with modernity and environmental sustainability blends with aesthetics. A place that represents the transformation of an industrial past into a new vision of the future.
