Basilica of San Vincenzo and Santa Caterina de' Ricci A journey through centuries of history and faith

Welcome to the Basilica of San Vincenzo and Santa Caterina de' Ricci, an architectural jewel that stands majestically in front of the church of San Domenico. The proximity between these two wonders is a tribute to the bond between a Dominican female monastery and its mother house, born at the dawn of the sixteenth century and completed at the end of the century.

The current appearance of this basilica is the result of an eighteenth-century renovation, carried out to celebrate the canonization of Santa Caterina de' Ricci, whose venerated body rests under the central altar.

The exterior of the church is influenced by its location, with the high facade surrounded by the other buildings, while the side opens onto the square, enjoying free space. The vertical sandstone bands divide the facade into four parts, each illuminated by a large window that widens towards the sky. On the left side, there is a side portal, framed by stone and surmounted by a plaque with an inscription. At the back, a bell tower stands out and catches the eye of visitors.

Once inside, you will be greeted by an atmosphere of richness and variety of materials. This basilica is one of the most splendid examples of late Baroque style, where the delicate light highlights the marble reliefs that adorn the walls and the main altar, masterpieces by the Florentine sculptors Foggini and Ticciati.

To visit this wonder, just ring the bell and the doors to a kingdom of art and spirituality will open. Let yourself be enveloped by the beauty that emanates from every detail and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of devotion that pervades these sacred spaces.
