Museum and Documentation Centre for Deportation and Resistance Relive the history and commitment of those who fought for freedom

The Museum of Deportation and Resistance is located in the hamlet of Figline, in Prato. This place is dear to the memory of the citizens because right here, on 6th September 1944, the day of the city's liberation from Nazi-fascism, 29 young partisans of the Buricchi Brigade, who came down to the valley from the nearby mountain resort of Faggi di Iavello, were captured and hanged by the retreating Germans.

Although focused on the massacre of the 29 young people, the museum itinerary offers visitors a touching journey into memory, telling the story of millions of men and women victims of roundups throughout Europe, deported for political and racial reasons, as part of the plan of oppression and annihilation carried out by the Third Reich during the war. The exhibition itinerary was conceived as a symbolic journey inside a Nazi concentration camp.

Inside the Museum, you can admire some original objects from the camps and factories excavated in the tunnels by the prisoners themselves. Other objects were recreated by the survivors, after their return to Prato, to bear witness to the atrocities suffered in the camps and the terrible conditions of forced labor.

The Museum organizes guided tours, projections of films and documentaries, research workshops on historical sources and educational tours. Furthermore, it hosts conferences, book and film presentations, theatrical and musical performances, as well as temporary exhibitions. The Museum is a lively place for discussion, which works to preserve historical memory and raise young people's awareness of the issues of peace and universal human rights.

Come and discover the Museum of Deportation and Resistance of Figline, a place that not only preserves the past, but which teaches us the importance of defending the fundamental values of freedom and human solidarity.
