Alberti Gallery A journey through masterpieces and history in the ancient Alberti Palace in Prato
The Alberti Gallery contains the late fifteenth-century spirit of the building, the result of a renovation probably commissioned by the rich Bardi family of Vernio, whose coat of arms remains on the facade. The first museum exhibition, in 1984, then renewed in 2005, exhibited works by illustrious artists from Prato and Tuscany.
The exhibition enhances an important historical, artistic and cultural heritage. The collection includes 142 works, of which 90 are on display, including treasures such as the "Crucifix in the Jewish cemetery" (1490-1502) by Giovanni Bellini, the "Coronation of Thorns" (1602-1603) by Caravaggio and the "Madonna with Child" (about 1436) by Filippo Lippi. You will also be able to admire works by Puccio di Simone, Bronzino, Santi di Tito, Poppi and numerous and prestigious works from the Florentine seventeenth century, as well as a considerable collection of sculptures by Lorenzo Bartolini, a renowned Prato artist active in the first half of the nineteenth century.
