Casone and Oratory of San Niccolò Explore the charm of a noble residence between past and culture

Immerse yourself in the fascinating atmosphere of the Casone dei Bardi, a place that hosts history, art and elegance in every detail. Originally home to the noble Bardi counts, powerful Florentine bankers and lords of the Vernio fiefdom, this splendid building has passed through the ages to give us an extraordinary cultural heritage today.

At Casone, which was later adopted as the municipal seat after the transition to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, you can walk in the footsteps of the Bardi, a family that left an indelible mark on this land. Since their move from the majestic Fortress to the heart of the town, the imposing building tells the story of a time of wealth and refinement.

During the 18th century, the Oratory joined the building, a jewel of classic and elegant forms, guardian of valuable works of art of the time. The frescoes and architectural details testify to the presence of skilled architects, sculptors and painters such as Massimiliano Soldani Benzi, Giovan Martino Portogalli and Antonio Maria Pucci.

An evocative gallery leads from the Oratory to the Casone, taking you on a journey through art and history. The Council Hall, with its coffered ceiling, welcomes you with portraits of the Grand Duke Peter Leopold and his wife, surrounded by eighteenth-century paintings that tell of an era of great importance.

The Oratory also houses the archive of the Company of San Niccolò, a treasure of historical documents which testifies to the dominion of the Bardi in this place. Founded by Count Ridolfo, the Company represented a point of unity for the community, with the aim of providing dignity and values to young women of marriageable age.

The Casone dei Bardi opens its doors during events and temporary exhibitions, offering the opportunity to experience a dive into the past in an atmosphere of refinement and authenticity.
