There is a path (CAI 410) that winds through the enchanting hills of Prato leading hikers to the top of Le Coste Mount, known as Spazzavento by the people of Prato, up to the Mausoleum of the famous Prato writer, journalist and filmmaker Curzio Malaparte. A hiking route for "Damned Tuscans" among the hills of Prato to discover a great writer.

It was Malaparte himself who expressed his desire to be buried on the barren peak beaten by the north wind, as recalled by the famous phrase taken from "Maledetti Toscani": "I would like to have the tomb up there, on the summit of Spazzavento, to raise my head every so much and spit in the cold gorge of the north wind".

And how can you blame him! The panorama that opens before our eyes from this position is breathtaking. A 180° view that sweeps over the Bisenzio river plain, with Florence and Pistoia on the sides, Monteferrato complex, Mount Javello and the karst chain of Calvana mountains.

Bringing the six-ton travertine monoblock up there was certainly not an easy undertaking, but the people of Prato honored the wish of their illustrious fellow citizen by building an impervious track through the woods.

Today there are two main routes to reach the Mausoleum, immersed in a rich vegetation of oaks, holm oaks and a great variety of flowers. You cross large meadows and steep slopes, enjoying uncontaminated nature.

Malaparte Path offers visitors a unique hiking experience, where you can admire breathtaking views, breathe pure air and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Tuscan countryside.

If the available time allows it, many other smaller routes, all marked by the CAI/Italian Alpine Club, can extend our hiking from a few hours to the whole day.
And then all we have to do is organize our backpack and leave!
