The Beast Stylized forms and ancient materials meet in the work by Bizhan Bassiri

The Beast is a sculpture by Bizhan Bassiri, an artist of Iranian origins, currently located in the square between the Textile Museum and the Lazzerini Library. Realized in 1994, the sculpture is made of bronze and rests on a travertine base.

The work has dynamic and essential forms that recall Brancusi's art. Despite the evocative title, the representation of the beast takes on a stylized form which above all resembles a machine. Although there are no obvious references to ancient bestiaries, ancient art is recalled in the choice of materials used, bronze and travertine, as if it was an ancient Roman sculpture.

The Beast of Bizhan Bassiri is a work that harmoniously combines elements of modernity and tradition, inviting visitors to reflect on the relationship between stylized forms and ancient materials.
