Melagrana Tower A symbol of power and beauty surrounded by uncontaminated nature
The Melagrana tower is one of the four fortifications encountered along the Route of the Fortresses, which connects Montemurlo to the Bisenzio Valley. Despite its current ruins, the tower still represents a suggestive element of the landscape and testifies to the historical and military past of the area.
The area of the Calvana mountains is marked by a scattered habitat of medieval origin, with farmhouses and tower houses, among which the Melagrana Tower stands majestically at the edge of a clearing above Del Bello Villa in Vaiano. Built with alberese stone and rectangular in shape, the tower was located on the southern border of the area influenced by the Alberti counts. It mainly had a military function, being a control point along the road that connected Montepiano on one side and Mugello on the other.
