Mazzocchio A work of art inspired by the past that celebrates modernity
Mazzocchio is a work of art donated to the city of Prato by the Prato Industrial Union in 1994, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Contemporary artists Ben Jacober and Jannick Vu created this structure using tubular steel in 1993-1994, tracing the main lines of the shape of the mazzocchio, an ancient Renaissance headdress. The work is part of a series of studies inspired by the drawings of the great Tuscan masters of the Renaissance, in particular Leonardo and Paolo Uccello, and reproduces in scale and with industrial materials the complex construction system that applies the theory of perspective.
An even more evident bond with the city is manifested through the frescoes created by Paolo Uccello inside the Cathedral of Prato, in the Chapel of the Assumption. These frescoes represent an artistic treasure of inestimable value and are connected to the "Mazzocchio" both for their Renaissance inspiration and for their approach to perspective. Thanks to this work of art, Prato celebrates its historical-artistic heritage and connects to the city's glorious past, offering visitors a unique experience in which the Renaissance merges with contemporary art.
