Waterbones is a permanent installation located at the entrance of the Lazzerini Library, a public art project created in Prato to celebrate the city's identity as a place of contemporary culture.

The work, created by Loris Cecchini, an internationally active Tuscan artist, was acquired by the Municipality of Prato on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Pecci Centre (1988-2018).

Waterbones is made up of 500 stainless steel modules, conceived by the artist to be aggregated together and spread throughout the environment like synapses of an organic system or as a climbing mechanism that continuously reflects light. The installation forms a sinuous pattern that invades the concrete wall next to the entrance to the Lazzerini Library. This sinuosity takes on a symbolic value of regeneration, transformation, reactivation and growth, which represents the memory of the ancient textile factory recovered and transformed into a new cultural centre, demonstrating the great work that lies behind it.

Waterbones is a work of art that invites visitors to reflect on the continuous evolution and regeneration of the city of Prato, transforming the industrial past into a new cultural reality. This testimony to the reactivation and growth of Prato is a tribute to the memory of the industrial fabric that gave life to a dynamic and creative community as evidenced by the location outside the former Campolmi factory.
